Those of you who
remember the ‘Lord Nelson”
participating in the Tall Ships
2000 Race will be excited to
learn that her sister ship,
‘Tenacious” will be sailing via
Bermuda in March of 2011 on her
way from Antigua to the U.K.
The Jubilee Sailing Trust has
advised us that a number of
berths will be available on both
voyages for Bermuda residents
who have physical and sensory
disabilities.
The JST has over
30 years experience taking
people of all abilities to sea.
As a charity, their main
objective is working with people
with physical, sensory and
learning disabilities. For
those between the ages of 16 and
25 years, there is the JST Youth
Leadership @ Sea Scheme which
helps young people to develop
leadership and communication
skills, to experience team work
and challenges, and, of course,
to develop new friendships.

The Jubilee
Sailing Trust is represented in
Bermuda by the Bermuda Sailors
Home. Tall Ships Bermuda will be
partnering with the BSH to
recruit potential trainees, both
able-bodied and disabled, to
apply for a berth either from
Antigua to Bermuda, or from
Bermuda to Southampton in the
U.K. We know that on the trip
from Antigua to Bermuda, there
are up to 10 berths each for
disabled and able-bodied.
However, wheelchair availability
is restricted due to limited WC
facilities, but there may be two
wheelchair berths. On the leg
from Bermuda to Southampton,
again there are 10 berths each
for disabled and able-bodies,
but no wheelchair users can be
accommodated. Each disabled
person is paired with a “buddy”
and pairings are determined
shortly before departure by the
first mate and the medical
purser.
Financial
assistance may be available
after consultation with the
Bermuda Sailors Home or Tall
Ships Bermuda. If you are
